Skyline Drive
North Entrance: Front Royal, VA
(540) 999-3500
This 105 mile long scenic highway follows the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains through the Shenandoah National Park. Built during the Great Depression, it features beautiful stonework in its 75 overlooks and the Mary’s Rock Tunnel. This is leisurely driving -- the 35 mph speed limit is about all you would want to do anyway -- and you don’t want to skip the overlooks. Open year round, weather permitting. If in doubt, call number above for current road conditions in park.
Fort Valley
George Washington National Forest - North Entrance: Waterlick, VA
This is the proverbial “hidden valley” with lovely farms cradled by mountains on either side, unspoiled by development. The highlight is a drive up from the valley to the Woodstock Tower, a 1935 observation tower offering views of the Shenandoah Valley and the seven bends of the Shenandoah River. Check with us for a map.
